September 16 – Olympique de Marseille has taken a bold move and given its women’s team a new look and feel. From this season onward, OM Féminines will be known as Les Marseillaises.
The unveiling came with collaboration from the men’s team. During OM’s recent Ligue 1 clash with Lorient at the Orange Vélodrome, the side took the field with Les Marseillaises branding on their kits.
Visually, the women’s side will carry their own emblem, a logo inspired by the statute of Marianne, an icon of the French Revolution. The logo will appear on marketing, merchandise, and digital platforms. They aren’t throwing out everything though as the OM crest keeps its place on the shirt, however Les Marseillaises have a symbol that belongs to them alone.
Additionally, sportswear giant PUMA has created a typically French lifestyle collection dedicated entirely to the women’s team. From streetwear-inspired hoodies and sweatshirts, the range is designed to reflect the vibrant port city.
The launch came with all the bells and whistles one would expect from an internationally known brand. A new website and ticketing platform went live, while a TikTok channel was created solely for the women’s team.
OM has gone through its share of ups and downs over the last few decades, but with Les Marseillaises, it has planted a flag and aims to be a high-profile competitor to the current queens of French women’s football OL Lyonnes.
And as they say in France – “every revolution begins with a Marseillaise.”
