September 18 – World Sevens Football (W7F), the professional women’s seven-a-side series, are making the most of their growing momentum by appointing Sarah Cummins as Chief Executive Officer. Cummins brings a wealth of experience across global sports, entertainment, and media, including leadership roles at the WTA Tour, WWE, and USTA.
“I’m excited to join World Sevens Football,” Cummins said. “This competition is innovative, global, and athlete-focused. It’s the future of women’s football.”
Co-founder Jen Mackesy echoed that sentiment, adding, “Sarah’s expertise across sport and media makes her the perfect leader to take W7F to the next level.”
Launched in May 2025, W7F offers a mouthwatering $5 million prize pool per event and showcases what they say is a faster, more dynamic version of the women’s game. Matches are shorter, with goals flying in, and the format appeals to fans seeking high-intensity competition. The next tournament takes place in Fort Lauderdale this December.
The rise of W7F reflects the growing global appetite for alternative football formats. Seven-a-side is carving out space much like T20 did in cricket or sevens in rugby, producing faster, more accessible, and easier to broadcast sport. For women’s football, it also creates new commercial and career pathways at a time when the sport is rapidly scaling.
