FIFA registers 4.5m fan applications for 2026 tickets

September 22 – More than 4.5 million fans have registered to secure their place at the biggest FIFA World Cup in history, navigating a website that has endured a number of user problems and delays.

During the ten-day Visa Presale Draw entry window, applications came in from 216 countries ahead of World Cup 26, which kicks off across North America next

The three host nations, United States, Mexico, and Canada, had the most applications, followed by the traditional powerhouses of world football, Germany, England, Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Spain, and Italy.

“These are not only outstanding figures, but also a strong statement,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said.

“The whole world wants to be part of the FIFA World Cup 26: the biggest, most inclusive and most exciting event ever seen. From Canada, Mexico and the United States to countries big and small across every continent, fans are proving once again that the passion for football truly unites.”

For fans who entered the presale draw, the next step comes at the end of the month. Beginning Monday, September 29, applicants will be notified on a rolling basis if they’ve been selected to buy tickets. Winners will receive a specific time slot to make purchases starting October 1, though being selected doesn’t guarantee availability for every match. It’s ‘Wheel of Fortune’ FIFA style.

Ticket prices will start as low as $60 for group-stage games, with all 104 matches eventually on sale, including single-match, venue-specific, and team-specific options, however prices are expected to soar due to FIFA implementing the very controversial dynamic pricing platform.

FIFA also confirmed that a secure resale platform will open October 2, designed to protect fans from invalid or unauthorised resales. Mexican residents will be able to use a dedicated national exchange system.
