Liverpool buddies up with Paypal as official digital payments partner

November 19 – Liverpool have added another global heavyweight to their commercial roster, signing a multi-year deal with PayPal making the US tech giant the club’s Official Digital Payments Partner. It is PayPal’s first sponsorship entry into Premier League sponsorship.

The agreement gives Liverpool promotional access to PayPal’s more than 400 million active accounts – while handing fans a more streamlined way to pay for tickets, merchandise and matchday purchases.

PayPal is already integrated across the club’s digital platforms, but will now become the preferred payment option, taking centre stage across checkout flows on LFC’s ecommerce and All Red membership systems. Branding will also feature inside Anfield and at St Helens where the women’s team play.

A central feature of the partnership is the roll-out of PayPal+, the company’s first loyalty programme. Supporters who use PayPal on matchdays will be able to earn reward points.

Beyond the transactional side, both parties say the deal will feed into wider club programmes. PayPal will collaborate on efforts to raise the visibility of LFC Women and support grassroots football through the LFC Foundation, tying the sponsorship to development projects rather than purely commercial activation.

Ben Latty, chief commercial officer at Liverpool, said: “This partnership is an exciting step forward in our commitment to innovation, ensuring fans can engage with the club in a seamless and secure way. PayPal’s dedication to supporting women’s football and grassroots development also aligns perfectly with our values and future focus, making this collaboration even more meaningful.”

No value or term was given for the partnership.

Geoff Seeley, chief marketing officer at PayPal, said: “Our global collaboration with LFC reinforces our relationship with sports fans everywhere, building on our world class professional and collegiate sports partnerships around the world. We’re offering customers a seamless and flexible experience that rewards them for doing something they love.”
