December 5 – When you need a TV pundit with instant credibility, look no further than French World and European Championship winner Thierry Henry. And now he’s bringing that pedigree to FOX Sports ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
FOX Sports announced Thursday that Henry will join the network’s broadcast team as lead analyst for next summer’s global showpiece. The announcement came from FOX Sports President of Production & Operations/Executive Producer Brad Zager.
“Thierry Henry’s name is synonymous with the best of the beautiful game,” said Zager. “As one of soccer’s elite, we are elated to add Thierry’s distinguished resume to our talent roster for the biggest World Cup ever and for viewers to hear from this renowned champion throughout next summer’s historic tournament.”
His work with Sky Sports and Paramount+ has helped set the standard for modern punditry. With a clear eye for tactics, along with a deep understanding of the mental demands placed on the world’s best players, Henry is in a completely different lane to Fox’s, Alexi Lalas, who brings bombast, fluff, and outrage to the broadcasts.
Henry will make his FOX Sports debut today when the network presents the FIFA World Cup draw starting at 11:30 AM ET at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
“It’s an honour and privilege to be part of the World Cup coverage for FOX Sports. For me, the World Cup is the ultimate sporting event and to join the team and still have some involvement in the tournament, fills me with a great deal of excitement. The draw in Washington tomorrow means we are close to the start. I can’t wait.”
Henry played in four World Cups, lifted the trophy on home soil, and has coached everywhere from Monaco to Montreal to the Belgian national setup, plus France’s Olympic squad.
One can’t help but feel that this coup signing signals something bigger. FOX has long been accused of playing catch-up in serious football coverage. Bringing in Henry suggests they finally want to compete with the likes of NBC, CBS, and the European giants. If they let him be himself, this could be the moment FOX turns the corner as a credible soccer broadcaster in the US.
