January 27 – Bayern Munich have opened talks with Harry Kane over a possible contract extension, as the Bundesliga champions move early to secure the long-term future of one of the most prolific strikers in Europe.
Kane, 32, joined Bayern from Tottenham in August 2023 on a four-year deal worth an initial €100 million, but his impact in Germany has already prompted discussions about what comes next. Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed negotiations are under way, with the club keen to avoid uncertainty around a player central to their sporting project.
“We’re talking to Harry,” Eberl said at a Bundesliga event in Frankfurt. “Everyone knows at some point a decision has to be made.”
Since arriving in Munich, Kane has delivered elite-level consistency that English fans will be more than familiar with. He has scored 119 goals and provided 30 assists in 126 appearances, while ending his long wait for silverware by lifting the 2024-25 Bundesliga title.
This season alone, he has 34 goals in 30 matches under Vincent Kompany, including 21 in 19 league games, putting him within sight of Robert Lewandowski’s Bundesliga record of 41 goals in a single season.
Kane has helped Bayern to second place in their Champions League group with one game remaining, reinforcing his value beyond domestic competition.
He’ll also be looking to add the ultimate prize to his growing trophy collection this summer with the Three Lions at the World Cup.
Speculation around a return to the Premier League has followed Kane since his departure, driven in part by his proximity to Alan Shearer’s all-time scoring record. The numbers track that had he opted to stay in the Premier League, that record may well be his by now.
However, that narrative has recently cooled somewhat. In October, Kane said he “could definitely” see himself staying at Bayern, adding that his desire to return to England had “gone down a little bit”.
“Harry has great confidence in us and he feels comfortable in Munich,” said chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen. “He and his family are settled in. Therefore, we’ve got absolutely no reason to rush.”
