May 13 – Sevilla FC club legend Sergio Ramos has reached a final agreement to become the new owner of the Nervión-based side, in a deal first reported by ABC de Sevilla.
The agreement was finalised on Tuesday following an intense round of negotiations between Ramos’s investment vehicle, Five Eleven Capital, and Sevilla’s current majority shareholders. While the takeover has still to be rubberstamped, the substantive issues separating both parties were resolved after a decisive meeting on Monday.
Five Eleven Capital is reportedly spending €450 million for an 80% stake in the club.
The official announcement is expected in the coming days, once the final legal clauses have been reviewed and signed off.
Ramos came through Sevilla’s academy before launching the career that would take him to Real Madrid, lift four Champions League trophies, and anchor a Spain side that won the 2010 World Cup and back-to-back European Championships.
His return as owner closes a generational loop few players ever achieve and lands at a moment when Sevilla, six-time Europa League winners, are searching for clarity on and off the pitch.
