FIFA clips Super Eagles’ wings with fine after fans invade pitch

October 3 – FIFA have slapped a CHF30,000 ($30,800) fine on Nigeria following a pitch invasion  after the Super Eagles’ 4-0 World Cup qualifying win over Cameroon last month and have warned the Nigerians against any repetition.

Nigeria was charged for similar offences in March last year when fans invaded the pitch during a game against Egypt.

This time the Nigerian FA were charged with “improper conduct amongst spectators” throwing in to focus next weekend’s eagerly anticipated qualifier with Zambia. Nigeria leads Group B on 10 points with Zambia second on seven.

Nigeria are aiming for their sixth appearance in the finals but Zambia coach, Wedson Nyirenda, has promised his players are more than capable of upsetting the form book.

“The chances to topple Nigeria are still there, we are going into that pitch with only one thing in mind – to go to Russia,” he said.
