September 8 – Manchester City are the latest high-profile club to be hit with fresh Covid-19 outbreaks, with both Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte testing positive just days before the start of the new Premier League season.
Both players are being forced to self-isolate rather than train, giving Pep Guardiola an unwanted head-ache so close to the start of the new campaign.
Luckily for City their opening fixture, against Wolverhampton Wanderers, is on September 21, a week later than most other games which get under way this weekend. With the self-isolation period being 10 days, both players should be available though City will be concerned about other squad members being infected.
“Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus,” a club statement said.
