Nilsson stays at top of Swedish FA as board shifts to a female majority

March 23 – Karl-Erik Nilsson has been re-elected as president of the Swedish Football Association (SvFF) for a two-year mandate.

Nilsson has been presiding over Swedish football since 2012 and the former referee and UEFA vice-president was re-elected by acclamation to head the SvFF. He will be joined on his board for the first time by a majority of female members.

The seven person board has four members from regional associations, two of them are newly elected females, while the other two female board members are from representatives of elite football and women’s football. Three of the women are new members of the board.

“The association was formed in 1904,” said Nilsson after his re-election. “And this year, we decided to appoint a board in which women are in the majority. In that aspect, it was a memorable general assembly.”

“There is a very large consensus on what our important issues are, and how we should handle our finances and our business,” he continued.

At the next UEFA Congress in April, the Swede is also looking to seek re-election for another four-year term on the governing body’s executive committee. He is standing alongside Poland’s Zbigniew Boniek, England’s David Gill, Germany’s Rainer Koch, Turkey’s Servet Yardimci, Belgium’s Mehdi Bayat, Russia’s Alexander Dyukov, Italy’s Gabriele Gravina and Just Spee of The Netherlands.
