Liverpool plays its US card for plastic scousers

April 13 – Football club branded credit cards are back in marketing fashion. Premier League Liverpool have announced financial technology firm Cardless, as an official affinity partner for the launch of club’s first branded credit card for US supporters.

The Liverpool FC Credit Card by Cardless, issued by First Electronic Bank, will offer Liverpool fans in the US opportunities to earn benefits and rewards via accumulating points on their purchases using the card – five points for every dollar spent on Liverpool merchandise and three points per each dollar spent on purchases made at bars, restaurants and select delivery services.

Fans can earn 30,000 points after spending $2,000 on their card within three months of opening their account, valued at $300 in statement credits.

The cards launch with the 2022-23 season with cardholders receiving a sign-on bonus of an annual LFC International Membership and LFCTV GO complimentary for the first year. The club said benefits include digital matchday programmes for every Premier League home match, access to a dedicated online Members’ Area and a 10 per cent retail discount in LFC official stores and online with a maximum discount value of £75 per season.

Ben Latty, commercial director, Liverpool, said: “This new partnership with Cardless will see the creation of our first branded credit card in the US, just another way that we’re enabling our supporters to feel even closer to the team they love.”
