Italian prosecutor Polcini takes chair of global integrity group SIGA

March 5 – The Sports Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA) has elected Italian magistrate Giovanni Tartaglia Polcini as the integrity body’s new independent and non-executive Chair. He replaces Franco Frattini who passed away on Christmas Eve.

Polcini (pictured) has been a Public Prosecutor in Italy for almost 20 years. Currently, he is the senior Legal Advisor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Italy, coordinator of anti-corruption activities and co-chair of the G20 Anti-Corruption Working Group, and an anti-corruption delegate to the OECD Working Group on Bribery since 2015.

He also coordinates several technical assistance programmes – Italy/International Italo-Latin American Organisation (IILA).

“Sport is a source of inspiration and shared values. A factor of progress and human fulfilment that moves billions of people around the world,” said Polcini.

“SIGA, for me, represents a dream! In my life, I always devoted my time and efforts to call for action and press for integrity, transparency and accountability in Sport…”

“With this in mind, we will increase efforts to strengthen both the legal and policy framework affecting corruption in sport, to mitigate corruption risks, as well as promoting ethical values, especially among the youth.”
