March 28 – American player agency CRD Sport has opened negotiations for the acquisition of Bulgaria’s top tier club Pirin Blagoevgrad.
Pirin’s shares are currently held by the Blagoevgrad Municipality after the club’s previous owner, Paul Belogour, decided to step down in February, handing his shares in the club to the local authority.
CRD Sport is a management agency that represents nearly 40 players and operates primarily in the Mexican football market.
Ilko Stoyanov, the mayor of Blagoevgrad, met with representatives of CRD Sport, where they discussed the club’s finances and acquisition of part or all of the shares.
The meeting was also attended by Pirin’s president Stanislav Manolev and technical director Petar Zanev, as well as a banker.
Stoyanov told the Americans that they should submit a written offer that will be discussed with fans, the sports community and the municipal parliament.
CRD Sport said they wanted full control of the football club and would invest in improving the club’s facilities.
A few days ago, the Municipality of Blagoevgrad allocated additional funds to pay Pirin’s tax debts to the National Revenue Agency. This clears the pathway for the club to receive a license for the new season. However, the team’s players have not been paid for more than two months.
No acquisition figure for the club has been given.
