June 6 – Polish football club Lech Poznan has announced the signing of a new technical sponsorship deal with Nike. The US brand will replace Puma as the appareil partner in the 2014/2015 season.
“It is with great pleasure that we announce the deal between Nike and Lech Poznan, one of the best Polish football clubs with 90 years of history and six Championships of Poland,” said Tim Runzheimer, General Manager of Nike Poland.
The amount of the latest contract was not disclosed by the Polish club. The new kits are to be presented in July. In addition, Nike will provide new merchandise to the club’s fan club, as well as a sports clothing collection designed for Lech.
“Cooperation with such a major brand is a very important step for [Lech Poznan],” said Karol Klimczak, the club’s chief executive.
Last week Lech Poznan announced it had extended its sponsorship deal with Polish betting operator STS by a further two years.
In the 2013/2014 season of the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Poland’s professional football league, Nike served as the technical sponsor of three other sides. These included Cracovia Krakow, Pogon Szczecin and Zaglebie Lubin. However, the latter club was recently relegated to the second tier Liga I.
Meanwhile, Puma is to remain the technical sponsor of one more Ekstraklasa side, Slask Wroclaw. Rival German brand Adidas is serving as the technical sponsor of the largest amount of Polish clubs, supporting a total of seven sides. These include this year’s champion of Poland Legia Warszawa, Korona Kielce, Lechia Gdansk, Wisla Krakow, Piast Gliwice, Ruch Chorzow, and Gornik Zabrze.
