Premier League clubs keep away ticket price cap at £30 for tenth season

June 9 – Premier League clubs have unanimously agreed to retain the £30 cap on away ticket prices for the 2025-26 season, marking a decade since the initiative was introduced to support travelling supporters.

The cap, originally implemented ahead of the 2016-17 campaign following sustained lobbying from fan groups, was designed to address the rising costs faced by supporters following their teams across the country. Since its introduction, away match attendances have grown significantly – from 82% capacity to 91% – underscoring its impact on maintaining strong travelling support.

A Premier League statement said the decision reflected “recognition of the additional costs associated with fans following their team during the season, and the incredible atmospheres they create at matches.”

The policy’s continuation comes against a broader backdrop of rising matchday costs. Nineteen of the league’s 20 clubs raised ticket prices ahead of the 2024-25 season, triggering a backlash from fan groups and the launch of the Stop Exploiting Loyalty campaign by the Football Supporters’ Association (FSA). The campaign, which included protests and a formal letter to the Premier League, called for a division-wide freeze on all ticket prices – not just for away fixtures.

During the 2024-25 season, total attendance across the 380 Premier League matches reached 953,420 for away supporters alone, highlighting the enduring importance of travelling fans to the league’s appeal, both in stadiums and on broadcast platforms.

While the £30 away cap remains popular among supporters, pressure is growing for broader measures to address the rising cost of attending top-flight football. The Premier League’s decision to maintain the cap signals an acknowledgment of that pressure, but also a reluctance – at least for now – to intervene further in clubs’ wider ticketing policies.

The 2025-26 season will be the 10th under the current cap.
