September 1 – The growth of the women’s game is expanding rapidly across all football’s formats with FIFA’s latest Futsal rankings showing 12 new teams enter FIFA Futsal Women’s World Ranking and a total of 92 nations now meeting ranking criteria.
Brazil, as they do in the men’s game, top the ranking, followed by Spain and Portugal. Thailand are fourth ahead of Japan.
FIFA said 95 matches have been played since the last ranking in April, taking the total of matches played in 2025 to 206 women’s matches and 165 men’s games.
These included 57 qualifiers for the inaugural Women’s Futsal World Cup to be played in the Philippines in November. The draw will be held September 15 when the 16 teams will be placed into four groups.
Qualified teams are Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Colombia, IR Iran, Italy, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Panama, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Tanzania, Thailand.
Morocco have played the most games during the latest ranking period, and have moved up the most places, from 47th to 31st after hosting and winning the Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.
Men’s top 6 unchanged
There has been no change in the men’s ranking with Brazil on top followed by Portugal, Spain, Argentina and IR Iran. Morocco are in 6th. The biggest climbers in the rankings are Sweden (74th, up 17), Moldova (66th, up 14), and Bahrain (69th, also up 14).
There are 139 teams in the Futsal rankings.
FIFA launched the Futsal ranking in May 2024 and have now updated them four times. Ranking points are calculated via a system that awards points to a nations total if they win a match, and subtracts them if they lose. The number of points is determined partly by the relative rankings of the teams involved.
