September 23 – Brazilian club Corinthians and Netherlands international Memphis Depay have reached an agreement over outstanding bonuses of R$17 million (€2.7 million).
The Sao Paulo giants owed the striker, who joined the club in 2024, R$17 million (€2.7 million), including bonuses for sporting merit and a signing bonus, and the two parties have now agreed on a two-phased payment.
Half of the amount will be paid in monthly instalments until February of next year and in March 2026, Corinthians will transfer the remaining amount.
The contract between club and player tied bonuses to the number of games played and goals scored, as well as money for the state championship title and outstanding image rights.
Club President Osmar Stabile reacted and said: “We’ve spoken with his entourage to agree on a payment schedule. The amount is high and we don’t have the funds, so we’ve asked to pay in instalments. We’re negotiating that.”
A former Manchester United and FC Barcelona player, Memphis has been out of action with a hamstring injury. This season, he has scored four goals and provided three assists in the Brazilian Serie A. After 24 match days, Corinthians are tenth in the league table with the season ending in December.
