Man Utd hope Canon Medical can fix the malaise

October 8 – Manchester United have extended their long-standing partnership with Canon Medical Systems for a further three years, representing continuity in a critical area of player welfare and performance development in an era increasingly hampered by congested fixtures and long-term injuries.

The renewed agreement builds on more than a decade of cooperation between the two organisations, with Canon Medical providing advanced imaging systems and diagnostics to support United’s men’s, women’s and academy teams.

Since 2013, the company’s technology has been embedded at the club’s Carrington Training Complex, where it plays a central role in cardiac, musculoskeletal (MSK) and general sports medicine imaging.

Under the extended deal, Canon Medical will continue to upgrade the club’s MRI, ultrasound and healthcare IT systems, while also working jointly on new research-led projects. A significant emphasis will be placed on injury detection, MSK imaging and the study of sex-based injury differences. The outcomes are expected to contribute not only to elite sport but also to clinical practice more broadly.

René Degros, Vice President of Canon Medical Systems Europe, said the renewal highlights “more than a decade of close collaboration and shared commitment to innovation in sports medicine.” He added: “From cardiac screening to injury rehabilitation, our imaging systems continue to play a vital role in supporting player health and performance.”

Dr Gary O’Driscoll, Manchester United’s Head of Sports Medicine, said the partnership “has been fundamental to advancing the health and performance of our players over the past 12 years.” He added: “Canon Medical’s technology and commitment to research have enhanced our ability to prevent, diagnose and rehabilitate injuries across all teams. This renewal reinforces our shared focus on providing world-class medical care.”

Manchester United will travel to face Liverpool at Anfield after the international break – a box office fixture that will have United fans licking their lips with Slot’s men winless in their last three games.
