Premier League’s match week 7 sees full stadia ahead of international break

October 8 – The Premier League entered the international break with another strong showing in the stands, posting an average capacity of 97.64% across the ten fixtures of match week seven. A total of 412,596 fans attended games over the weekend, leaving just 8,923 seats empty league-wide.

Four clubs – Manchester United, Brentford, Arsenal, and Newcastle United – filled their grounds to 99%, and have each become regulars in that 99% club as the season progresses.
However, below-par turnouts from Aston Villa and Wolves meant the overall figure stayed just shy of the 98% mark recorded earlier in the season when these four teams last played at home in the same matchday.

At Villa Park, a crucial win over Burnley offered a timely boost for Unai Emery’s side after a sluggish start to the campaign saw them goalless in four games. The result should lift both team morale and ticket sales ahead of their next home fixture, a clash with Manchester City on October 26.

Wolves’ attendance numbers, however, remain a talking point. Their consistent 92% turnout at Molineux is well below the Premier League’s average and may prompt internal discussions about how to re-engage local support. Despite a decent on-pitch effort to hold Brighton to a single point on Sunday, the drop-off in attendance highlights a potential concern for the club’s commercial outlook.

Elsewhere, Manchester United recorded their highest attendance since Rúben Amorim took charge last November. The 2–0 win over Sunderland marked a positive day both on and off the pitch, with new goalkeeper Senne Lammens impressing on his home debut and earning man-of-the-match honours.

They will hope to take this momentum into their away clash with Liverpool at Anfield after the international break, with attendance expected to be at near-capacity for one of the England’s most heated matchups between its two most successful clubs.

Through the first 140 matches of the 2024/25 campaign, the league’s overall attendance average stands at 97.70%, with match week four still holding the season’s peak at 98.19%.

Match week seven reinforced the Premier League’s status as the world’s most followed domestic competition – though a handful of clubs will be looking to tighten the gap between nearly full and truly full houses when play resumes in ten days.
