RSC Anderlecht confirm the return of Michael Verschueren as Chairman

October 16 – The RSC Anderlecht board of directors has approved the appointment of Michael Verschueren as the club’s new Chairman, part of the restructuring project undertaken by majority shareholder Marc Coucke.

Verschueren was previously a co-shareholder and member of the board between 2010 and 2023 before he left to focus on his position at the European Football Clubs organisation, formerly known as the European Club Association.

His departure, at the time, brought an end to a nearly 50-year-old family dynasty at the club. His father, Michel Verschueren, was a fitness coach between 1963 and 1969 and returned as general manager in 1980, after a few years at rivals RWDM.

“Mister Michel” oversaw a glorious period in which the Brussels club won eleven national championships, three Belgian Cups, and the UEFA European Cup in 1983.

Michael now returns to the club, albeit it in a more ceremonial role, as he succeeds Wouter Vanderhaute who stepped down earlier this season.

In addition, Kenneth Bornauw has been appointed as the club’s new CEO. The father of former player Sebastiaan Bornauw will be in charge of the day-to-day running of the club. He had previously held the role of CEO Non-Sports at the Brussels-based club.

Current CEO of Non-Sports Isabelle Vanden Eede and CEO of Sports Tim Borguet will report to Bornauw in the new hierarchy.
