October 21 – US second tier league the USL Championship will have a new team in 2027 playing in a new-build stadium in Reno, Nevada.
The United Soccer League (USL) officially awarded Reno Pro Soccer the franchise with the unveiling of its new $80 million stadium that will have a capacity of 6,000 and will anchor a new sports and entertainment district that will also have restaurants, shops and bars.
Reno have previously a professional team though Reno 1868 FC only played in the USL from 2017 to 2020.
Reno Pro Soccer’s lead investor is Todd Davis. The team is led by chief executive and co-founder Wendy Damonte, deputy chief executive and co-founder Bob Enzenberger, and former US national team player John Doyle.
Justin Papadakis, deputy chief executive and chief real estate officer of the USL, said: “With the World Cup on the horizon, excitement around soccer in the US has never been stronger. Reno Pro Soccer’s arrival couldn’t come at a better time. Backed by a committed local ownership group, a passionate sports community, and plans for a first-class stadium anchoring a new sports and entertainment district, Reno is poised to become one of the country’s top soccer destinations.”
The team name, crest and colours will be unveiled in the coming months. The franchise is now accepting deposits for season tickets.
