November 4 – The Fifpro Women’s World XI remains one of football’s highest individual honours as it recognises excellence by players, for players. This year, the Lionesses of England have dominated, with six players making the World XI.
After England’s stunning run to the pinnacle of European football during this summer’s Euros, captain Leah Williamson, goalkeeper Hannah Hampton, defender Lucy Bronze, and forwards Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo all feature, along with Millie Bright, who recently retired from international football while leading Chelsea to a domestic treble.
Bronze, 34, makes the World XI for a record eighth time, surpassing French legend Wendie Renard’s mark of seven. Bronze was a lynchpin of the side and incredibly played 106 minutes of the final against Spain with a fracture in her leg.
Two African players are also recognized as Zambia’s Barbra Banda and Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak, become the first players from the continent to make the World XI. Spanish superstars, Ona Batlle, Aitana Bonmatí, and Alexia Putellas round out the lineup.
More than 6,000 professional players from across the world voted, and that’s what gives the Fifpro World XI its weight. It’s not about working the room, marketing, or flashy headlines. It’s about respect from your peers.
