Trump pardons Spurs majority owner Joe Lewis of insider trading

November 14 – Joe Lewis, the billionaire whose family is the majority shareholder of Tottenham Hotspur, has been granted a presidential pardon by Donald Trump.

Lewis, 88, who is based in the Bahamas, pleaded guilty to insider trading in 2024 and was fined $5 million by a New York judge. The Lewis family trust owns more than 70% of ENIC’s 87.62% stake in the club, who first invested in Tottenham in 2000.

The Lewis family has recently taken a far more visible role in North London since Daniel Levy’s dismissal as executive chairman in September.

Speaking after the announcement, Lewis said: “I am pleased all of this is now behind me, and I can enjoy retirement and watch as my family and extended family continue to build our businesses based on the quality and pursuit of excellence that has become our trademark.”

A source close to the family added: “Joe and the Lewis family are extremely grateful for this pardon and would like to thank President Trump for taking this action. Over his long business career, Joe has been a visionary, creating businesses across the world which multiple generations of his family are now taking forward.”

The pardon also clears the way for Lewis to return to the United States for the first time since his sentencing, allowing him to reunite with family in Florida.
