November 26 – MLS NEXT Fest is almost here, and this year’s edition isn’t just massive. It’s a veritable gold mine. With more than 30,000 players and nearly 1,500 teams converging in Mesa, Arizona for 12 straight days, the 2025 event has quietly become one of the most profitable showcases in North American soccer.
Between team fees, travel, hotels, food, sponsorships, and the sheer scale of operations, the economics here are huge. These events generate millions, and MLS has figured out how to package youth development into a self-sustaining, high-demand product.
At the same time, MLS NEXT Fest is sold as a highway to the pros. With more than 500 professional, college, and national-team scouts on site, the pitch sold to parents is that a ‘Messi-like’ performance can unlock a real pathway into MLS academies, college scholarships, and MLS NEXT Pro. That dream isn’t fake, but if you do the math, you’ll understand why mega casinos get built in Las Vegas.
A small number of players will make the journey from MLS NEXT to MLS contracts, but they’re the exception. For most families, the “pathway” is more about exposure to college programmes than a guaranteed pro trajectory; however, with the college portal, those opportunities are becoming increasingly rare. Still, the dream is powerful, the promotion seductive, and it helps fuel the scale of the entire operation.
This year brings back U13 and U14 divisions which will be spread across Mesa, Scottsdale, Bell 94, and Reata. The U15 through U19 teams will compete at the Arizona Athletic Grounds alongside the MLS College Showcase, designed to show how academy soccer connects to both college and the professional game.
The 2026 Generation adidas Cup Qualifiers also return, doubling from 16 to 32 teams in the U15 and U16 brackets. Three MLS NEXT Pro academies – Carolina Core FC, Chattanooga FC, and CT United FC – will battle for a spot as well.
“MLS NEXT Fest brings together the top youth teams from across the United States and Canada, and it continues to stand as the best winter recruiting event in North America,” said MLS NEXT Technical Director Luis Robles. “With the introduction of the MLS NEXT Academy Division this year, we are proud to make this the largest event in our program’s history.”
Across three-games-in-four-days schedules, Best Of matches, uncommitted showcases, and a new Player Pathway Speaker Series focused on development and career planning, MLS NEXT Fest keeps building its brand. Whether it consistently produces pros is still up for debate, but what can’t be denied is that this is one of the most lucrative youth soccer events in the country.
