Czech club Bohemians Praha wins agreement to buy Ďolíček stadium from city council

December 17 – Czech top tier club Bohemians Praha 1905 has agreed in principle to buy its Ďolíček stadium from Prague’s city government.

The City property management and sports committees voted unanimously to sell the stadium. The club has already begun preparatory work with a full re-build now scheduled to start in January.

What hasn’t been agreed yet is a price.

“The club equals the stadium. That is an equation that we have had in our heads for a long time and that should apply. Historically, this validity has been violated and we would now like to rectify it. That is why we have started negotiations with the City Council about buying the stadium into the club’s ownership,” said Bohemians director Darek Jakubowicz.

Plans for the renovation were discussed at the  meeting by the Property Management Committee and the Sports and Leisure Committee, with a subsequent statement saying: “The ZHMP Property Management Committee recommends initiating negotiations with Bohemians Praha 1905, as regarding the transfer of the Ďolíček stadium for a fee. It also recommends ensuring the preparation of an up-to-date expert report.”

The 6,300 capacity Ďolíček stadium is nestled in a residential district. As part of the proposal, the club guarantees that it will continue to operate the football stadium at Vršovická 31, which it will reconstruct and modernise.

The emphasised that this is the start of the process, but with building work scheduled to being next month it will be hard to walk back the agreement. “The entire negotiation is at the very beginning, and we will inform fans and the public about its development as soon as there are any major developments,” said the club.
