February 6 – Canadian Soccer Business (CSB) has acquired non-exclusive Canadian broadcast rights to the National Women’s Soccer League, for its OneSoccer TV channel.
The agreement brings the NWSL under CSB’s umbrella at a time when it says that Canadian representation in the league is as strong as it has ever been.
More than 20 Canadian players are currently on NWSL rosters, including senior national team regulars and Olympic gold medallists such as Kailen Sheridan, Jessie Fleming, Julia Grosso, Jordyn Huitema and Adriana Leon.
The focus on Canadian players overseas has been a driver of CSB’s audience growth strategy. CSB recently secured Bundesliga rights in Canada, giving fans a domestic platform to follow star man Alphonso Davies on a weekly basis.
“Our vision at CSB is to strategically acquire and manage media rights in ways that expand access to the game and support the long-term growth of soccer in Canada,” said James Johnson, Group CEO, Canadian Soccer Business.
“That includes increasing the visibility and impact of Canadian players across the game, expanding the range of competitions available to fans, and ensuring consistent access at home beyond international windows and competitions.”
With the co-hosted men’s World Cup fast approaching and the Women’s World Cup 2027 in Brazil not far behind, there is an increasing focus on sustaining interest between tournaments, keeping Canadian players visible, narratives current, and audiences engaged.
