August 22 – The English Football League (EFL) is halfway through its first midweek round of EFL fixtures to be streamed in the UK and Ireland. 31 games across the Sky Bet Championship, Sky Bet League One and Sky Bet League Two will have been live-streamed by the end of tonight’s matches.

August 22 – UEFA, whose president Aleksander Ceferin has resisted video assistant referees in his club competitions, are considering a partial about-turn and could introduce VARs in the Champions League from the quarterfinal onwards, according to The Times newspaper.

Lying Hillsborough police chief Norman Bettison to escape criminal trial

August 22 – A former British police chief who was charged with lying over his role in the 1989 Hillsborough stadium disaster that killed 96 fans will no longer face trial after a review of evidence, according to prosecutors.

August 21 – In a further blow to supporters who were hoping to welcome the cream of Europe to their spanking new stadium, Tottenham Hotspur will have to play at least their first home Champions League match this season at the national stadium at Wembley as a result of  delays in opening their £800 million state-of-the-art ground because of ongoing security and safety issues.

August 21 – Spain and Japan reached their maiden U-20 Womens World Cup final after eliminating hosts France and England respectively. The tournament will culminate on Friday in Vannes with the final showdown.

Rojas recuses herself from investigation of Colombian FA World Cup ticket scam

August 21 – Unconfirmed reports say FIFA has opened a preliminary investigation into the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) over the resale of tickets for World Cup qualifying matches which, if true, would represent another blow to the credibility of Conmebol in the wake of the FifaGate scandal.
