Manchester United bang in record £91.7m third quarter revenue

May 3 – On the pitch, Manchester United won the 212-13 Premier League title with four games to spare. Off the pitch financial results for the three and nine month periods ended 31 March 2013, announced yesterday, which show record third quarter revenue of £91.7m, sponsorship revenue increasing by 52.2% and adjusted EBITDA increasing 22.5% to a third quarter record of £25m.

Hawk-Eye wins Premier League goal-line technology contract

April 11 – In a first for any football league globally, the English Premier League has voted to bring in goal line technology from next season, choosing British-based firm Hawk-Eye to provide the science. Hawk-Eye beat three other potential suitors, including German firm GoalControl, to the contract, announced by the Premier League this afternoon.

Newcastle in black, but Coventry and Dunfermline see red and rock bottom

March 28 – Newcastle United have recorded only their second year of profit since billionaire Mike Ashley bought the club in 2007 for £135m. The £1.4m profit is a drop on the previous year’s £32.6m profit, but substantially better than the finances at Coventry (English Championship) and Dunfermline (Scottish Division 1) who both fell into the hands of administrators yesterday.
