Cameroon political twist: normalisation committee adds to doubt over 2019 AFCON hosting

August 24 – Cameroon’s flickering hopes of staging the 2019 African Nations Cup have been plunged into further doubt following FIFA’s appointment of a normalisation committee to run the national federation (FECAFOOT).

CAF delays Kenya inspection as 2018 CHAN hosting looks to be slipping away

August 22 – With qualification for the 2018 African Nations Championship winding up this evening, it remains to be seen where the final tournament will be held, as The Confederation of African Football (CAF)  announces they are delaying a crucial inspection visit to Official Host Kenya until September 7.

August 18 – Cameroon will learn on September 23 whether it can go ahead and stage the first expanded African Nations Cup finals in 2019 or whether it will have to step down through lack of facilities.

FIFA move to protect Johansen, telling Sierra Leone sports minister to butt out

August 16 – FIFA has again stepped into the Sierra Leone row to protect Isha Johansen, the SLFA president that the world governing body recognises but who football stakeholders and government officials in Sierra Leone argue is holding the position in an unelected capacity after her mandate ended August 3.

Under fire Liberian FA hangs legal director out to dry as Interpol hunts Bility

August 15 – In what looks like a further attempt to clean house of dissenting voices within the federation, the Liberian FA (LFA) has suspended its legal director Benedict Yarsiah “with immediate effect without pay, for time indefinite, pending an investigation.”

Senegal re-elect Senghor while Tanzania opt for Karia as African FAs go to the polls

August 14 – At the weekend, Me Augustin Senghor (pictured) was re-elected for a third four-year term as the head of the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) whilst the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) elected Wallace Karia, former vice-president as the new president.

Sierra Leone government pressures SLFA to bring forward its FIFA-postponed congress

August 10 – In the latest example of a government controlling its national FA,  Sierra Leone’s sports ministry has given the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) until August 14 to hold an ordinary congress to pave the way for elections now that the four-year mandate of SLFA boss Isha Johansen has expired.
