Now, in a move that would make even American sports blush, the Premier League is asking clubs to swing those doors wide open for the prying eye of television cameras.
April 23 – Concacaf are taking a big step into the broadcast media world with an agreement with South American and LA-based TV production company Offline Sports to produce a documentary focussed on the 2025 edition of Concacaf’s revamped Champions Cup.

March 28 – The unfairly maligned U.S. Open Cup has just received a major shot in the arm with the announcement that CBS Sports and U.S. Soccer have reached a multi-year, multimedia rights agreement for the exclusive English-language rights through 2026.
February 17 – In the latest broadcast crisis in French football, the Professional Football League (LFP) has taken legal action against rights-holder DAZN over withheld payments.
February 10 – The Federation of German Consumer Organisations (Verbraucherzentrale Bundesverband) is pursuing a class action lawsuit against DAZN, alleging unjustified price increases.
February 3 – Evision, the media and entertainment subsidiary of UAE mobile telecoms business e& (formerly Etisalat), has announced a strategic partnership with FIFA+ to bring the football-focused channel to STARZ ON, its free ad-supported streaming platform. This collaboration aims to enhance football content offerings in the MENA region by providing 24/7 access to premium FIFA programming at no cost.
February 3 – Women’s football is perhaps the fastest growing sector within the game, and that theme looks set to continue now that East London Ladies FC and MOLO have teamed up to celebrate one woman’s impact on grassroots football over the last decade in their new documentary ‘The New Gaffer’.
January 31 – The MLS’s groundbreaking 10-year, $2.5 billion deal with Apple is starting to show cracks after just two seasons, with not even Lionel Messi driving the subscriber growth that was predicted for the streaming service both within the US and internationally.
October 31 – The Women’s Professional Leagues Limited (WPLL) has agreed what it says is “the most significant broadcast partnership ever for women’s football”, following a new rights agreement with Sky and BBC Sport in the UK and Ireland.
September 16 – Dutch public broadcaster NOS has secured the broadcast rights for the 2026 and 2030 World Cups.
July 24 – City Football Group (CFG) have partnered with entertainment giant Sony Pictures Television (SPT) to co-develop and produce new original scripted, nonfiction, and kids’ television projects for worldwide audiences.
April 17 – The English Football League (EFL) has renewed its broadcast production partnership with IMG taking it through to the end of the 28/29 season. Within the new deal, IMG is committing to deliver a ‘major upgrade’ to the EFL’s broadcast output for the next five years.
February 1 – Having already announced record breaking social media and attendance for the Asian Cup Qatar 2023 that enters the quarter final stage today, the AFC is reporting that the finals tournament is also smashing TV viewership records.
December 5 – The Premier League has agreed a new record £6.7 billion domestic television deal with Sky Sports and TNT Sports to show up to 270 live games a season, replacing the current £5 billion deal which runs until 2025.
