Betway to sponsor legends match as Hammers bid farewell to Boleyn Ground

April 7 – West Ham sponsor Betway has picked up title sponsorship for an England v Germany Legends match to be held in honour of the Boleyn Ground’s final season and to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1966 World Cup final.

The 1966 World Cup has always held a special place in West Ham history with the club having then provided three of the starting 11 – Bobby Moore (captain), Geoff Hurst (hat-trick hero) and Martin Peters – to the winning England team.

The England legends team will feature Hammers legends Joe Cole, Teddy Sheringham, David James, Trevor Sinclair and Dean Ashton. They will be joined by Paul Scholes, Sol Campbell, Steve McManaman, Robbie Fowler and a cast of stars from film, music, sport and TV.

Germany will be captained by former Chelsea and Bayern Munich midfielder Michael Ballack, who will line up alongside Lothar Matthaus, Guido Buchwald, Fredi Bobic, Mario Basler and Jens Nowotny.

The online bookmaker will run an exclusive competition in the lead up to the fixture that will see one fan made an honorary ‘Legend’ for the day and take their place in the England squad.
