Man City get GIPHY – a social media site, not a player

June 6 – Manchester City has launched an official club page on social media site GIPHY, the first English Premier League club to embrace the platform.

While Man City may be the first in England, they are not the first globally with a number of MLS clubs already using the site, including sister club New York City FC.

GIPHY is an online database and search engine that allows users to search for and share animated GIF (picture) files. Launched in 2013, a key plank of GIPHY’s strategy is to partner with brands to host GIFs that can be shared as marketing promotions via social media channels. Initally GIPHY launched as a search engine before expanding to allow users to post, embed and share GIFs on social media.

Manchester City GIFs can now be shared across personal social media channels, including Twitter, Tinder and Facebook Messenger. Man City GIFs will also be incorporated into the searchable GIPHY timeline and when composing tweets fans can use the search bar to find City GIFs.

A club statement said: “The English Premier League side are no stranger to GIFs and a collaboration with GIPHY, the best way to search, share, and discover GIFs on the Internet, means it is now easier than ever before for Manchester City fans to find and share their favourite City GIFs.”
