Bad taste: Toronto sex banner taunt meets social media and Montreal censure

August 30 -Toronto FC have apologised to rivals Montreal Impact after a “disgraceful” banner portraying a woman seemingly performing a sex act was displayed during Saturday’s Major League Soccer clash.

club statement has asked fans to help identify who was responsible for the banner which it described as “an embarrassment” and  “insulting to many, including our opponent”.

Impact beat MLS Eastern Conference leaders and Canadian rivals Toronto 1-0 with a 73rd-minute Ignacio Piatti goal but the victory was overshadowed by the x-rated banner which drew a furious reaction on social media.

It depicted a man in the red colours of Toronto, with a woman wearing underwear in Montreal Impact blue kneeling in front of him along with the phrase “Montreal you suck”.

A club statement provided to Toronto’s Globe and Mail newspaper said: “We are currently investigating through all available security and social media footage and strongly encourage fans with any information to assist us in identifying those involved so that they can be held responsible.”
