Furious Real boss Perez brings European Super League talk back into play

February 7 – Real Madrid are reportedly stepping up their interest in a European Super league after being left high and dry by the late postponement of a recent league game.

Real president Florentino Perez is said to have been fuming when last weekend’s trip to Celta Vigo was called off for safety reasons after a storm caused damage to the roof of the stadium.

The feeling is that not all possibilities were exhausted before the postponement and Real will now have to cram another match into an already busy schedule.

Out of frustration, Perez has apparently revived the idea of a Super League which has long been muted but would almost certainly bring immediate sanctions from UEFA.

Spanish sports publication Marca claims it would be formed by Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Sevilla of La Liga; Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool in the Premier League; Juventus, Milan, Inter and Napoli in Serie A ; Bayern, Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen of Germany; and Paris St Germain, Marseille and Lyon from France.
