September 29 – The Chinese Super League is taking further steps to boost the quality of its league saying that it will likely bring in experienced referees from Europe and America for the 27th round of the current league competition. The CSL has already committed to bringing in video assistant referees (VAR), now scheduled for the 28th and 29th rounds.

The CSL has in the past selected referees from Asia to officiate in league matches. This is the first time they have looked beyond their confederation boundaries for match officials.

The decision was rubber-stamped by the Chinese Football Association (CFA) at a meeting of clubs from the CSL, the China League One and the China League Two. The CFA is looking to establish a professional referee systems that includes referee training academies. A pathway to improving refereeing standards is seen as being via strengthening referee exchanges.

The Chinese have already tested the VAR system in selected top flight matches and earlier this month took the decision to invest Y20 million ($3 million) in the official Hawk-Eye technology,

The video assistant referee (VAR) system will likely be used in some of the matches in the 2017 championship before full implementation in 2018.
