Aeroflot offers Russian fans cheap tickets to fly

January 2 – Russian World Cup fans could be offered Aeroflot flight tickets for just 5 rubles (9 cents) between cities where Russia’s team is playing. Russian president Vladimir Putin has been reported as saying it is a “good idea.”

Aeroflot Director-General Vitaly Savelyev said the cheap tickets would be available three days before and three days after scheduled games to Russian fans who can show they have game tickets.

As many as 70,000 of the cheap tickets could be sold.

“We will charge all Russian fans 5 rubles for a one-way trip on all Aeroflot routes to any city that is hosting the World Cup matches,” said Savelyev.

“In case our football team makes it to the final there will be more seats and we have reserved such possibility.”

The 2018 World Cup is scheduled to be held between June 14 and July 15 in 11 Russian cities, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sochi, Kazan, Saransk, Kaliningrad, Volgograd, Rostov-on-Don, Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, and Samara.
