February 28 – Internazionale have opened their eighth academy outside of Italy, the latest being in Beirut, Lebanon. Inter is working in partnership with Water Resources LTD Company and Sportomondo on the project in Lebanon.

Inter vice president Javier Zanetti in Beirut to inaugurate the project, spoke of the global Intern project saying: “It represents the international expression of the Inter youth academy, which is renowned for its success on the pitch and the unrivalled ability of its coaches when it comes to developing and moulding the professional footballers of the future.

“Yet Inter Academy is about helping youngsters grow as people first, and footballers second.”

The training programme “will be modelled around the youngsters’ natural development process, with activities designed for the younger children, a competitive-style programme for the older kids and the creation of Elite Teams for both boys and girls,” said an Inter press release.

Inter will base two coaches in Lebanon to begin with. Aldo Montinaro will serve as senior technical operations manager, while Massimiliano Barisoni will remain in Lebanon as the first permanent coach.

Inter Academy operates in Argentina, Brazil, China, Colombia, Indonesia, Japan and Saudi Arabia, with 15,000 youngsters, 200 local instructors and 30 Italian coaches taking part.

Earlier this month Inter launched their academy programme into Indonesia in partnership with PERSIB Bandung.
