Matthäus signs on for Morocco 2026 final push

May 21 – In a late run to pick up support ahead of next month’s 2026 world cup vote, Morocco have named former Germany captain Lothar Matthäus as its latest promotional ambassador.

The 1990 World Cup winner participated in five World Cups and four European Football Championships and joins a list of ambassadors including  as Roberto Carlos, Mustapha Hadji, Mehdi Benatia, El Hadji Diouf or Daniel Amokachi

“I support Morocco’s candidacy for the World Cup 2026, because I am convinced that Morocco, with its innovative and compact concept, will offer impeccable conditions for players, supporters and all football lovers,” he said in a trademark statement.
