July 6 – Hard on the heels of Betway having announced two new club betting sponsorship in LaLiga, Marathonbet has taken its first Spanish steps becoming the main sponsor of Girona FC.
The Catalonian club is owned City Football Group (CFG) who also own Premier League champions Manchester City. Marathonbet last month became the club’s first global betting sponsor.
No value was given for the sponsorship which is said to be a multi-year contract that begins with the coming season and will see Marathonbet activate the sponsorship via exclusive content, promotions, special offers and stadium branding.
Ignasi Mas-Bagà, CEO of Girona (pictured right), said: “Our agreement with Marathonbet is highly strategic. With this link we have fulfilled our objective of establishing an alliance with a renowned and prestigious company.
“Marathonbet will be our first main sponsor since winning promotion to La Liga, so this is a real milestone for the club. We intend to create a close, long-term relationship so that both entities can continue to grow together.”
CFG bought a 44.3% stake in Girona last August, following the club’s promotion to Spain’s top tier. They invested alongside Pere Guardiola, brother of Man City manager Pep, who also owns 44.3%. Man City have a number of players on loan at Girona providing a backbone of talent for the club.
