Modrić, Ronaldo and Salah shortlisted for men’s award, Harder, Hegerberg and Henry for women’s

August 21 – UEFA have unveiled the top three shortlists for the men’s and women’s player of the year awards. The winners will be announced August 30 at the Champions League group draw in Monaco.

The men’s nominees list was selected by a jury composed of 80 coaches of the clubs in the group stages of the Champions League and 55 selected journalists. The women’s nominees were selected by a jury of the coaches of the 12 highest-ranked teams in the latest UEFA women’s national team rankings, together with the coaches of the eights clubs who played in the quarter-finals, plus 20 journalists specialising in reporting the women’s game.

Jury members chose their top three players, with the first receiving five points, the second three and the third one. Coaches could not vote for their own players.

Player of the year shortlists:

Men – Luka Modrić (Croatia – Real Madrid CF), Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal – Real Madrid CF, now at Juventus), Mohamed Salah (Egypt – Liverpool FC).

Women – Pernille Harder (Denmark – VfL Wolfsburg), Ada Hegerberg (Norway – Olympique Lyonnais), Amandine Henry (France – Olympique Lyonnais).

As well as the other player of the year shortlists, other positional awards shortlists have been drawn up:

Goalkeeper of the Season: Alisson Becker, Gianluigi Buffon, Keylor Navas

Defender of the Season: Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Raphaël Varane

Midfielder of the Season: Kevin De Bruyne, Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić

Forward of the Season: Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah

Women’s Player of the Year: Pernille Harder, Ada Hegerberg, Amandine Henry

Europa League Player of the Season: Diego Godín, Antoine Griezmann, Dimitri Payet
