AFC’s pushes capacity building within MAs with roll out of Advance 11 benchmarking

September 19 – The AFC is to roll out its Advance 11 benchmarking tool to member associations across the confederation following a successful pilot project involving as number of Member Associations (MA).

The decision was taken by the AFC’s Development Committee at a meeting today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Committee also underlined its commitment to enhance the financial management capabilities of MAs with the aim to establish robust governance and compliance standards by 2020.

AFC Development Committee chairperson, Zhang Jian (China) said: “Effective financial management is the hallmark of all professional organisations. This is an important area of development as it ensures greater transparency and accountability… Through a targeted and customised approach, we are confident that our Member Associations will strengthen the landscape of Asian football, both off and on the pitch.”

The Advance 11 focusses on 11 football development categories, which include legal and governance, finance and risk management, administration, human resources, facilities management, communications, marketing and branding, commercial and business development, national teams and competitions management as well as advocacy, engagement and relations.

MAs can measure their own operations against the benchmarking standards outlined in the Advance 11 documentation.

The AFC Development Committee also agreed that Financial Management will form part of the Core Development Goals initiative, which focuses football sustainability and includes the incorporation by MAs of the Competition Management System, Live Streaming Platform, and commercialisation of Member Associations’ content.

Support was also given to the AFC President’s Infrastructure Initiative to include a wider range of projects. More details will be announced at the AFC Executive Committee meeting in Tashkent later this month.
