Turkish prosecutors call for 12-year jail term for Barca’s on-loan bar brawler Turan

October 17 – Turkish prosecutors have charged Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan over a brawl with a well-known Turkish pop singer and have called for a jail sentence of 12 years.

Turan is currently on loan to Istanbul’s Başakşehir and has been charged with sexual harassment, unlicensed possession of weapons and causing intentional injury over a fight with Berkay Sahin, according to the state-run Anadolu Agency.

He reportedly testified to the police on October 11 after he broke the pop singer’s nose at a night club in Istanbul the previous day.

On her social media account, Berkay’s wife claimed Turan had harassed her in a night club with sexually suggestive remarks and headbutted her husband during the ensuing fight.

Turan was also accused of going to the hospital where Berkav was being treated and firing his gun there. He was released after police interrogation.

If he is convicted for a jail sentence longer than two years, the Turkish Football Federation can legally ban Turan from football for life.

According to local publication Hurriyet, there is also a charge against the singer for insults, with a two-year prison sentence demanded.
