China looks overseas for 100 coaches to work in grassroots with youth and local trainers

October 22 – The Chinese Football Association (CFA) has launched a project to recruit 100 foreign football coaches to work at grassroots centres across the country.

The project, called ‘100 Foreign Coaches’, has begun with 15 coaches from Spain who have been in Wuhan to learn about grassroots football in China and dispersed to seven training centres including in Dalian, Chongqing, Yanbian, Shenzhen and Changzhou.

Each coach will work with youth players mainly in the target three age groups of under 9, 10-12 and 13-15.

The CFA said that the coaches will arrive in the country in six batches and first learn about Chinese football culture and grassroots organisation before taking their skills into the community. At the heart of their mission is an identified requirement by the CFA to build a higher level of players and coaches at the base of their football pyramid which will, over time, increase the pool of players able to compete at national and, ultimately, international level.
