AEK fans heap more disgrace on Greek football, leaving Ajax fans battered and bloodied

November 28 – Just as Greek football is battling to re-instil confidence in its domestic game, violent AEK fans have heaped new disgrace on the Greek game.

AEK Athens look certain to face sanctions following their Champions League defeat to Ajax on Tuesday that was marred by shocking scenes.

Visiting Ajax fans came under attack as home supporters threw flares and firecrackers while photos on social media also Ajax fans covered in blood.

Players from both sides were seen to be rubbing their eyes as smoke drifted across the Athens Olympic Stadium after a petrol bomb exploded

No arrests or injuries were immediately reported but police also clashed with mostly Greek fans in central Athens earlier in the day.

Ajax won the match 2-0 with Marko Livaja sent off for AEK, who cannot even qualify for the Europa League knockout rounds after losing all five of their group games.
