AFC women lobby for position on FIFA Council

January 8 – The race for the next occupant of the Asian women’s seat on the FIFA Council has got under way with the Maldives’ candidate, Mariyam ‘Mayan’ Mohamed, meeting with FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Mayan’s campaign visit to Abu Dhabi co-incided with the start of the Asian Cup and prior to her departure she stressed to local media how winning the council seat will allow her to restart various FIFA projects that have been halted for one reason or the other.

The FIFA council votes are to be held in April with Bangladesh’s Mahfuza Akhter Kiron, the present incumbent, and candidates from North Korea, Palestine and Laos vying for the seat.
