Man Utd keep the sponsorship wave ride going with Maui Jim deal

February 18 – They might not be needed too often in Manchester, but Man Utd are never ones to be left in the shade when it comes to sponsorship and have agreed a multi-year partnership with Hawaii-based sunglasses and eyewear brand Maui Jim.Maui Jim will supply the Man Utd first team, academy and women’s teams with glasses from their sun and optical ranges.

The brand’s ‘eyewear’ will also be available for fans in the Old Trafford Megastore from end of February before the launch of a co-branded eyewear collection later this year – perhaps a set of glasses with a light on for local fans as Manchester can be pretty dark and grey weather-wise for most of the year.

Manchester United’s group managing director, Richard Arnold, commented: “Maui Jim is a revolutionary global eyewear brand that is one of the largest and most innovative producers of sunglasses in the world. I’m delighted that they will be joining the United family and creating a range of exclusive eyewear pieces specifically for our fans. Our partnership with them demonstrates the club’s ability to attract the world’s most premium brands.”

Maui Jim made its fashion mark with its patented PolarizedPlus2® lens technology, which blocks 100% of UV rays and eliminates glare, and has now expanded into everyday glasses as well as sunglasses.

Maui Jim’s VP of global marketing, Jay Black, said: “We are thrilled to welcome Manchester United to the Maui Jim ‘Ohana (Hawaiian for family)… This collaboration gives us the chance to spread our “Aloha Spirit” and communicate the importance of wearing high quality technical eyewear.”

No value for the deal was given.
