Man City fan ‘critical’ after fight in Schalke’s Yeltsin Arena

February 22 – A Manchester City fan is fighting for his life after an alleged assault following their Champions League win over Schalke in Germany this week according to reports in both countries.

German police said the victim suffered a serious head injury in a violent confrontation with two Schalke supporters inside the Veltins Arena.

“In the skirmish, he received a blow from a fist which knocked him to the floor,” police said.

Manchester City said the 31-year-old, who has not yet been named, was currently in a “critical condition” in hospital. Police in Germany said there was “’currently acute danger to life”.

“Because of the fall the man suffered a severe traumatic brain injury,” read a statement. Police in both Germany and Manchester have appealed for witnesses.
