April 1 – The English Football Association has named internal candidate Mark Bullingham as the successor to outgoing Chief Executive Martin Glenn who is stepping down at the end of the season after four years in charge.

Bullingham is currently the organisation’s commercial and football development officer and has been promoted to one of the most high profile jobs in British sport having been in charge of negotiating broadcast and commercial deals.

Glenn is expected to stay on to September to support the transition to his successor who will immediately be tasked with grappling whether the FA pushes ahead with a joint British and Irish bid for the 2030 World Cup finals.

“This is an incredibly exciting time to be at the Football Association and I’m delighted to be given this opportunity,” said Bullingham. “I’m hugely passionate about the role the FA plays in improving the English game and our positive contribution to society. Getting kids across the country active and learning life skills such as teamwork and communication is incredibly rewarding.

“I’m confident in the talent and determination of the workforce here and the direction we are heading together.”

Before joining the FA in 2016 Bullingham, a qualified coach, was the CEO of a sports and entertainment marketing agency.
