Two arrested over Sala morgue pictures

April 30 – Two people, a man and a woman, have been arrested in the UK after a photo purporting to show the post-mortem examination of Emiliano Sala, the promising young Argentine tragically killed in a plane crash in January after he had completed a £15 million move from Nantes to Cardiff City.

Police said they were arrested on suspicion of unauthorised access to computer material though there was no evidence to suggest a break-in at the mortuary.

The woman, was also arrested on suspicion of malicious communications, has been released on conditional bail, the man released under investigation.

A light aircraft carrying Sala crashed into the English Channel killing the player and the plane’s pilot. Sala’s body was recovered from the aircraft’s wreckage two weeks later.

Police began an investigation into the photo after becoming aware of the image on Twitter, which was swiftly removed but only after being circulated extensively on various social media sites.
