By Abdelaziz Abuhamar in Cairo

July 6 – Senegal and Liverpool star Sadio Mane became the first player in the CAF Cup of Nations to have missed two penalties ever in the continental showpiece currently being played in Egypt.

Twenty-eight penalties in AFCON history have been missed by 27 players with Mane the only player to have missed twice.

The Liverpool ace who recently won the UEFA Champions League with the Reds led his country to the AFCON 2019 quarter final after edging Uganda 1-0 in round 16. Mane scored the match’s sole goal to raise his tally to 3 goals leading the tournament’s goal-scoring list.

However, it was the second penalty Mane squandered in AFCON 2019 following the penalty he missed in his AFCON 2019 debut match against Kenya when Senegal won 2-0.

Senegal will take on Burundi in the AFCON 2019 quarter finals next Wednesday.
